Our Bespoke Curriculum at St. Gregory’s

At St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, we have worked closely with our parents, pupils, staff, and governors to design a bespoke curriculum that is meaningful, engaging, and tailored to the unique needs of our children here in Chorley.

Together, we identified four core values—our curriculum drivers—that underpin every lesson and learning experience at St. Gregory’s:

We are RESILIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CURIOUS, and REFLECTIVE.

These values shape not only what we teach, but how we teach:

  • Resilience is nurtured through challenging, creative tasks that require perseverance and the development of skills over time.
  • Curiosity is sparked by encouraging pupils to ask and explore questions about themselves, their environment, and the wider world.
  • Responsibility is developed through meaningful use of our local environment and school grounds, as well as through our global partnership with a school in Kenya. Together, we work on projects linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, helping pupils understand their role as global citizens.
  • Reflection is woven throughout our curriculum. Pupils reflect on their learning, their personal growth, the lives of others, and how they can make a positive difference in the world. This is supported through our social, moral, cultural, and spiritual education.

Each year group follows age-appropriate topics, with subjects taught individually to ensure depth and progression. However, where natural and meaningful links exist, we make cross-curricular connections to enrich learning while maintaining a strong focus on subject-specific skills.

The whole school studies topics in Geography, History, Music, Art and DT that fit into our whole school theme each term:

Autumn term: We are in Chorley, Lancashire, UK

Spring Term: Passport to Europe and the World

Summer Term: Our Amazing Planet!

Please see below for the key learning that is covered in each subject, each term.
