Physical Education at St. Gregory’s
At St. Gregory’s, we are proud to offer a high-quality and diverse Physical Education (PE) programme that supports every child in developing physical competence, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement. Our PE curriculum also plays a vital role in promoting personal development, health, and well-being.
We encourage pupils to adopt positive attitudes towards a healthy, active lifestyle, while nurturing key learning behaviours. Through creative, competitive, and challenging activities, children learn to:
- Be curious and think in different ways
- Show resilience in the face of challenge
- Make thoughtful decisions and solve problems
- Reflect on their performance and strive for improvement
PE at St. Gregory’s also supports personal and social development. Pupils work individually, in pairs, and in teams—developing fairness, cooperation, and a strong sense of responsibility. They take on a variety of roles including leaders, coaches, and officials, building confidence and communication skills.
All children have access to at least two hours of high-quality PE each week, delivered through curriculum lessons and a wide range of after-school clubs. Our Sports Premium funding has enabled us to enhance our outdoor spaces, including the installation of a running track for the Daily Mile and a personalised orienteering course.
We’ve also expanded our offer to include exciting new sports and activities such as hockey, handball, Quidditch, and Commando Joes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Each year, our pupils proudly represent the school in a variety of competitions through the Chorley School Sports Partnership, including:
- Girls’ and boys’ football
- Netball
- Sportshall athletics
- Hockey
- Skills and inclusion festivals
