Primary PE and School Sport Funding
Schools are allocated a sum of money, called the Primary PE and Sport Funding to support all children and improve the quantity, quality and breadth of PE and sport provision. The allocation is calculated according to the intake of the school, and the school must decide how best to use the money to improve the breadth and quality of PE and sport provision, including increased participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
At St. Gregory's we have decided to use this money to:
- Buy into membership of the Chorley School Sports Partnership (CSSP) and continue our excellent partnership with this organisation which provides staff professional development opportunities and a wide variety of sporting competitions for all age groups.
- Audit staff training requirements and procure quality-assured professional training for staff to raise their confidence and competence in teaching PE and sport.
- Employ a fully qualified coach to offer curriculum support and whole school extra curricular sporting activites.
- Become members of the Youth Sport Trust and take advantage of expert advice to evaluate the school’s current strengths and development points in PE and sport, and implement plans for improvement, including purchasing of new equipment where necessary.
- To run and further develop the 'Change4Life' programme which targets pupils who are less physically active and encourages them to get involved, try new sports and develop a better understanding of the importance of being healthy.
- To develop our forest school provision and wellbeing.
Impact Measures:
- An increase in the number of pupils taking part in extra-curricular sport
- Maintain the high level of opportunity for pupils to be involved in competitive school sports.
- The greater awareness amongst pupils about the dangers of obesity, smoking and other such activities that undermine pupils’ health
- Quality of overall provision to improve so that all teaching of Physical Education is working towards being 'Outstanding'
- Maintain our Gold Level Youth Sports Trust Quality Mark
- Achieved two awards for our Change 4 Life programme
